This wedding was so special to me, not just because it was beautifully planned and full of heartfelt moments, but because it was family. Zach (or “Zacky” as I’ve called him since we were kids) is my cousin, and getting to photograph him marrying the love of his life, Kaitlyn, was an honor I’ll never forget.
Their entire day was joyful, intentional, and full of Christ-centered love that radiated through every photo.
We started the morning with the prettiest collection of details that Kaitlyn had gathered, from sentimental touches to beautiful textures. As she got into her dress, she shared the sweetest, emotional moment with her mom that really set the tone for the day.
Zach was glowing all morning, and when he saw Kaitlyn for their first look, it was everything. The emotion, the smiles, the joy… it was so them.
They also chose to exchange private vows during that time, and let me just say… there was not a dry eye in sight. It was quiet, intentional, and full of love.
We captured all the portraits before the ceremony (which I always love!), so once guests began to arrive, everyone could just relax and be present. The ceremony itself was even more meaningful because Kaitlyn’s uncle officiated it, adding a personal and heartfelt layer to the experience.
After a round of family portraits and that “just married glow”, Zach and Kaitlyn enjoyed a mocktail hour complete with a lemonade bar (such a fun, personal touch!).
Their first dance was choreographed by Kaitlyn’s sister and oh my goodness, they nailed it. It was sweet, fun, and truly felt like a celebration of their personalities. They also each shared a dance with their moms, and those moments were so tender and emotional.
Zach’s mom made their wedding cake, which made the cake cutting feel extra special. There was also a cookie table for guests (which we love in West Virginia weddings), and a full evening of dancing and celebration.
Oh, and Zach is a huge Mountaineer football fan, so yes, there was a pepperoni roll toss at the reception. It was iconic.
One of my favorite parts of the day? Their sunset portraits. The lighting was dreamy, glowy, and golden but here’s the secret…we took them in the parking lot. I always tell my couples: I’ll go wherever the light is good, because light matters more than the location. And these portraits? Some of my favorites ever.
Zach & Kaitlyn, you’re so special to me! It was such a gift to witness your day. You two were absolutely beaming with joy from start to finish, and your love for each other and your families was so evident. Thank you for letting me document it all. I’m cheering you on as you start this new chapter!
