Wedding Tip Wednesday | Engagement Session Outfit Inspiration

Client Education

Searching for the perfect engagement session outfit inspiration?! Look no further. Your engagement session style should reflect who you are. After all, it’s celebrating you two and should showcase your unique style and love. After choosing your venue, wedding planner and photographer, it’s time for the fun stuff like planning your engagement session! If you’re hoping for a more romantic style of shoot that includes “light and airy” colors, you can actually make outfit choices that will lend your images to turn out brighter, softer and extra photogenic.

Here are three tips for choosing the best outfits for your session:

1. Neutral Colors

Soft ivory, blush, tan, light pink, faint blue, cream, gray and white will always result in more of a light and airy look in your images. These colors photograph softer and more romantically! Colors to avoid include bright reds, neons, bright oranges (they reflect color onto skin and can be difficult to edit!) The other thing you may consider is alternating heaviness… For example, if one of you is wearing very dark jeans, the other may want to wear lighter pants. If one of you is wearing a navy top, the other shouldn’t wear a dark/heavy colored top. To a certain degree, alternating the “heaviness” of your outfits can make your images look more balanced. It also can still give you the recipe for beautiful light and airy photos!

2. Long, Flowy Skirts and Dresses

Dresses and skirts with feminine ruffles, multiple layers of fabric and the ability to blow and move in the wind will always photograph beautifully! You would be amazed at how impactful moving fabric softens an image. I also LOVE bows! They are so much fun and can really add to your photos. You can also have fun with some heels!

3. Khakis vs. Jeans

If you really want your images to be as bright as possible, consider having your groom wear lighter pants instead of dark dress pants or dark jeans. Of course, you can’t go wrong with a dark blue or black suit, but I always make sure to encourage my brides to then wear something bright to off-set the dark colors from his outfit. You can see great examples of that in these images! Khakis and those lighter colors always dress up your images as well.
