When you think of a perfect fall engagement session, you imagine golden leaves, the crisp air, and the undeniable warmth shared between two people deeply in love. Jennifer and Jake’s engagement at Blackwater Falls was simply stunning. It may have been a little chilly, but the fall foliage and mountain views were absolutely worth it!

How They Met

Jennifer and Jake, set up by coworkers, have an undeniable chemistry that just warms my heart. Their love story is one that inspires. On one of their first dates, they went hiking at New River Gorge. Though their personalities clicked before, that day it was like they both just “knew.” When Jake picked Jennifer up they talked for hours about their faith, hobbies, taste in music and their goals in life mirrored each other. Jennifer told me “Saying goodbye that evening was so hard and we couldn’t wait to see each other again.” I kept thinking their love story reminded me of a Hallmark movie. We had such a fun time together! Their joy and excitement were evident through infectious laughter and the sparkle in their eyes.

The Proposal

Jennifer tells their proposal story: “Jake actually intended to pop the question a few weeks earlier on a trip we had planned, but life had other plans, and we had to cancel our vacation. He considered a few other ideas, but none panned out. 

The day he proposed, he decided only a few hours before.” She and Jake made it a point to celebrate and recognize special moments from early in their relationship. “The day he proposed was the anniversary of our very first date. We went to dinner at the same spot as we did two years before, and on our way home, he asked if I wanted to stop at the Sunrise Trail, an overlook in Charleston. It was a beautiful day, and we always do things like that, so I didn’t suspect a thing. When we got to the overlook, we were talking and holding hands when he started to focus and talk about us. I was still clueless. Then he pulled out the ring and popped the question. I was so excited I couldn’t stop saying yes. It was perfect!” Is this not the sweetest story ever?!  

The Setting

I am so glad we were able to get Jenn and Jake’s engagement session in! They told me last year they made the trip to Tucker County and love going on road trips together. Jennifer said “We love West Virginia and are always looking for an excuse to get out and enjoy it. We already planned to return to Davis & Thomas this year, and following our engagement, knew it would be memorable and special to have our photos taken there. We were so right!” They spent the weekend exploring the towns, hiking on Dolly Sods, exploring Canaan Valley, and Blackwater Falls. Jennifer said she hopes they continue to make the trip each year.

The fall is always really busy for me and the weather hardly ever cooperates. The day of their session was no different. What started out as a breezy, sunny fall day, quickly turned into a chilly and cloudy evening. These two were such troopers! I loved getting to document their beautiful smiles and soft embraces. The trees surrounding Blackwater had transformed into a canvas of reds, oranges, and yellows. Every photograph captured Jennifer and Jake’s undeniable connection, the warmth of their smiles, and adventurous personalities.

Jennifer and Jake’s fall engagement at Blackwater Falls was an emblem of their promise to a lifetime of love together. Their sweet demeanor, beautiful smiles, and perfect fall outfits added an extra layer of charm to their session. I loved spending time getting to know them. Their wedding next year will be a beautiful celebration of their love story.
